History of Hookah Pipes
The use of Hookah pipes has been growing steadily in the past few years. What makes it so popular among young people in western civilizations? Well, the same reason why it has been used for hundreds of years in Asian countries. These types of pipes were created for the sole reason of using a simpler way to smoke tobacco. Using this method, people were able to minimize the tobacco flavor to the max while making the smoke cooler. This process helps the fragrance of the herbs that are placed in the pipe to be more present. This is probably the most characteristic feature of using these pipes since these fragrances mask the usually strong and burned flavor of tobacco. This method was so popular that the use of it was rapidly widespread to several countries and it even became a social status symbol inside Indian aristocracy and middle class.
Of course, in the beginning, the hookah pipes were rudimentary. Their arrival in other countries gave them some modifications, thanks to new materials, which allowed them to be more elaborate. It was in Egypt were they almost reached the design we have today. Intellectuals and the high class were the ones that gave it such popularity. They left a mark in the cultural conscience. It has been almost always certain that whatever the royalty uses, the common people want to use it, too. That is how it finally became the pipes we see everywhere nowadays. People buy them to use them at home in privacy or people just go to dedicated places and share with friends or simply engage in the ritual with strangers. After all, even if it is usually not a symbol of status anymore, it still gives a taste of luxury that cigarettes just do not.
